THE LOCATION OF THE PROVINCE OF RAETIA

§1. The western boundary of Raetia is in the Adoula mountains between the headwaters of the Rhine and the Danube rivers, and the northern boundary is from the well springs of the river Danube to the junction with the Ainos river 34° 0˘ 47° 20˘

The eastern boundary is along part of the river Ainos itself, but not to its southern extremity, holding the position 34° 0˘ 45° 15˘

From where, in the south, over the Italian Alps mountains, being towards Graias and holding to position 30° 0˘ 45° 20˘

§2. Towards Poinos at the beginning of the Licios river, where the Danube rushes in, this divides Raetia from Vindelica 31° 30˘ 45° 30˘

Towards the Ocra mountain 33° 30˘ 45° 30˘

§1. The Runicates occupy the most northern part of Vindelica, Below these the Deuni and the Consunates, then the Benlanes, and then the Breuni alongside the Danube river.

THE LOCATON OF THE PROVINCE OF NORICUM

§1. Noricum is bordered towards the west by the Aino river, towards the north by the Danumbe between the junction of the Aino river and the Cetium mountains, this has the location, 37° 30˘ 46° 50˘

Towards the east (it is bounded) by the Cetium mountains, towards the south joining the mountains, the summit of which form the western boundary of Pannonia. These hold the position between 36° 0˘ 45° 20˘

and 37° 0˘ 45° 40˘.

and thence over to the Istrian plateau, called the Caruagcas, this having the position 35° 0˘ 45° 20˘

§2. The Senaces and the Alauni, chiefly from the north, occupy the far west of the province,

and the Ambisonti,

in the far east the Norici,

and the Ambidrani,

and the Ambilici.

LOCATION OF THE PROVINCE OF UPPER PANNONIA

§1. From the west Upper Pannonia is bounded by the Cetium mountain and partly by Carnanca, from the south by Istria and part of Illyria, on the opposite side from the west a parallel line joining the Albanian mountains to the Bebion mountains and the mountains of Lower Pannonia, holding the position 41° 30˘ 45° 20˘

From the north, joining the mountains of Noricum and part of the Danube between Cetium mountain and the turn at the (N)arabona river, this position holds the position 41° 0˘ 47° 40˘

from the east, the boundary alongside Lower Pannonia, relates to the opposite side.

§2. The Azoli occupy the province to the north, while to the west the Cutini and to the east, and to the south the Latobici while (in that part of the territory which is) below Noricum, the Varciani and towards the east, in between the Boioi while to the west, below these the Coletiani or Colaitiani, the Iassioi towards the east, and below these the Oseriates.

§1. The province of Lower Pannonia has for its western boundary the province of Upper Pannonia, from the junction of the river (N)arabonus to where it joins the summit of the mountains, from the south part of Illyria, from the summit of the mountains to the bend of the Danube in relation to its junction with the river Sava, the location for this being,

From the north and east that part of the river Danube from the junction of the (N)arabonus river to the junction of the Sava river, having the selfsame locations.

§2. After the (N)arabonus river,

in relation to the Curtan turn 42° 0˘ 47° 0˘

In relation to the river stretching to the west, going through the territory of both Pannonias, it splits into two in relation to Carradunum town and Cetium mountain. The northern stream is called the Savarias, the southern stream the Darus. 44° 20˘ 45° 40˘

THE LOCATION OF THE PROVINCE OF ILLYRIA. (DALMATIA AND LIBURNIA)

§1. The province of Illyria is bounded to the north by the two provinces of Upper and Lower Pannonia, being cut off by mountain ranges, from the west in relation to the line marking the boundary with Istria, it holds the median position,

§8. While the Iapudes occupy the province alongside Istria, the Mazaii are Liburnia, towards the west,

beyond these the Ditiones,

beyond the Derrii, the Ceruni,

within Dalmatia the Daorsi,
